Heavy rainfall in the southern region may lead to some rivers experiencing floods exceeding warning levels. The Ministry of Water Resources has made the latest arrangements.

According to the forecast, from May 7th to 10th, there will be a strong rainfall process in most of southern China, the eastern and northern parts of southern China, the eastern parts of southwest China, and the southern parts of the Jianghuai region. In particular, there will be heavy to severe rain in the eastern and southern parts of Hunan, the eastern and central parts of Jiangxi, the western parts of Zhejiang, the western parts of Fujian, the southern parts of Anhui, and the northeastern parts of Guangxi. As a result, the main rivers in the Dongting Lake system in Hunan, including the Xiang River, Zi River, and Yuan River, as well as the rivers in the Poyang Lake system in Jiangxi, including the Gan River, Fu River, and Rao River, the Gui River in Guangxi, the Min River in Fujian, and the Qiantang River in Zhejiang will experience significant increases in water levels. Some rivers in the areas with heavy rainfall may experience flooding above warning levels. On the morning of May 6th, the Ministry of Water Resources organized a flood prevention consultation, analyzed the rainfall and flood situation in the southern region, and arranged for the deployment of measures to prevent and respond to heavy rainfall. After the consultation, the Ministry of Water Resources issued a notice to the water resources departments of 12 provinces including Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Chongqing, and Guizhou, as well as relevant river basin management agencies. The notice requested to strengthen duty and consultation, conduct rolling monitoring and forecasting of rainfall, timely release warning information, scientifically manage the operation of water projects to control flooding, enhance urban flood control and drainage operations, focus on key areas and sites of risk, especially emphasizing the prevention of mountain flood disasters and small to medium river flooding, reinforce inspections and defenses of reservoirs and embankments, and implement safety measures for dangerous and under-construction reservoirs during the flood season, in order to fully ensure the safety of people's lives.
