The sales of the five largest business groups in South Korea accounted for 40% of the GDP last year.
According to information from the South Korean government department on the 6th, the sales of the five major business groups accounted for about 40% of the nominal Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2024, with all large enterprises accounting for nearly 80% of the sales. The 92 large enterprise groups with disclosure obligations had a total sales of 2,007.7 trillion won last year, accounting for 78.8% of the nominal GDP published by the Bank of Korea last year. Looking at the five major business groups in South Korea, according to the data from the Fair Trade Commission, Samsung Group had sales of 331.8 trillion won last year, accounting for 13% of the GDP; Hyundai Motor Group had 279.8 trillion won, accounting for 11%; and SK Group had 205.9 trillion won, accounting for 8.1%. The total sales of Samsung Group, SK Group, Hyundai Motor Group, LG Group, and Lotte Group accounted for about 40% of South Korea's GDP last year.
