A commentary in Science and Technology Daily stated that some academicians and experts indiscriminately accept invitations to attend various forums and conferences, regardless of the occasion. They have become true "academic socialites," always either attending meetings or rushing to the next one. Some academicians and experts only go on stage without giving a speech, just show their face and leave; while others are unprepared for speeches or presentations, not paying attention to what they say, just going through the motions. Some even use the same PowerPoint presentation everywhere, without showcasing cutting-edge research or sharing the latest scientific ideas, making their academic contributions uninspiring. It is understandable for academicians and experts to participate in normal academic forums and activities to spread scientific knowledge and promote the spirit of science. However, if they attend such events too frequently, it will distract their own focus and research time, promoting a sense of superficiality and utilitarianism. To solve the problem of "chasing meetings," the units where academicians and experts are located should take responsibility, strengthen supervision, make more specific regulations on their lectures and reports, clearly define which events they can attend or not, and enforce strict regulations with serious consequences for violators. Academicians and experts should also consciously reduce meaningless "platform-style participation" and focus more time and energy on scientific research, setting a good example. In addition, relevant departments should strengthen supervision of the organizing units of forums and conferences, hold them accountable for focusing on appearances rather than substance, and promote forums and conferences to "return to their original intentions" and better serve the construction of a strong country and innovative development.
