The US Department of Justice demands the division of Google's ad technology business, to which the latter strongly opposes.

On Friday local time, the Department of Justice in the United States proposed at a hearing in a Virginia court regarding Google's advertising business: to require Google to divest its advertising technology business and sell publisher ad servers (software used for selling ads) and online display ad exchange platforms. The Department of Justice advocates for the phased implementation of this divestiture plan, first requiring Google to open its real-time bidding data on its advertising exchange platform to competitors. The US District Judge Leonie Brinkema, who presides over the case, has set September 22nd as the date to hear proposals for remedies to address the competition harm identified in Google's advertising business. According to the agreement, both parties must submit formal detailed proposals before May 5th. Google and the Department of Justice have basically reached a consensus on real-time data sharing, but the company strongly opposes any divestiture requirements, calling them "impractical and destructive".
