The US Department of Justice demands the division of Google's ad technology business, to which the latter strongly opposes.
Local time on Friday, the US Department of Justice proposed in a hearing in a Virginia court involving Google's advertising business: requiring Google to divest its advertising technology business, sell publisher ad servers, and online display ad exchange platforms. The Department of Justice advocated for the implementation of this divestiture plan in stages, first requiring Google to open its real-time bid data to competitors' servers on its ad exchange platform. The US district judge Leoni Brinkma, who is presiding over the case, set September 22 as the date to hear proposed remedies to address the competition harm identified in Google's advertising business. According to the agreement, both parties must submit formal detailed proposals by May 5. Subsequently, Google and the Department of Justice have reached a basic consensus on real-time data sharing, but the company strongly opposes any divestiture requirements, calling it "impractical and destructive."
