The industry association representing footwear manufacturers in the United States is calling on the Trump administration to consider granting tariff exemptions for their products, stating that tariffs will raise the cost of footwear products in the United States and lead to business closures. The American Footwear Distributors and Retailers Association, in a letter dated April 29, urged President Donald Trump to reconsider the tariff measures, stating that tariffs pose a "survival threat" to the industry. "If the current situation continues, American footwear workers and consumers will suffer," the organization stated. "This is an urgent situation that requires immediate action and attention."
