Nike and Adidas urge Trump to exempt shoe products from tariffs.
The industry association representing shoe manufacturers in the United States has called on the Trump administration to consider granting tariff exemptions for their products, stating that tariffs will raise the cost of American footwear products, leading to business closures. The American Footwear Distributors and Retailers Association urged President Donald Trump to reconsider tariff measures in a letter dated April 29, stating that tariffs pose a "survival threat" to the industry. "If the current situation continues, American footwear workers and consumers will suffer," the organization said, "This is an urgent situation that requires immediate action and attention." The companies signing this letter include Nike, Under Armour, Puma, and the American subsidiaries of Adidas.
