Futures data and evaluations from the London Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) show that the average natural gas price in Europe in April decreased compared to March but increased year-on-year. Natural gas prices at various European hubs have been rising since last autumn, reaching $509 per 1000 cubic meters in the first quarter of 2025. The average natural gas price in April decreased by 12.5% compared to March, to around $409 per 1000 cubic meters, but was 28% higher than in April 2024.

Aluminum producer Alcoa said on Thursday that its orders for the second quarter remained strong and it has not yet seen a decrease in orders related to US tariffs. It also pointed out that this week's power outage in Spain has brought risks to its business there. The cause of the recent power outages in Spain and Portugal this week is unknown, increasing the risk to Alcoa's San Ciprin aluminum plant in Spain. Alcoa currently has no plans to build any aluminum plants in the United States in the near future, as building an aluminum plant typically takes 5 to 7 years.
