On April 30, 2025, local time, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission, attended the 15th meeting of the BRICS National Security Chief Representatives in Braslia, Brazil. The meeting focused on the role of BRICS countries in mediation and conflict prevention. Wang Yi stated that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War and the founding of the United Nations. Despite the current turbulence in the world, peace remains the common aspiration of people. Mediation, conflict prevention, and achieving peace are the top priorities for the vast majority of countries. In terms of mediation, BRICS countries have always been at the forefront of the world. From promoting a historic reconciliation between Saudi Arabia and Iran to mediating a ceasefire in Gaza, from facilitating a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine to initiating the "Friend of Peace in Ukraine" group during the Ukrainian crisis, BRICS countries have demonstrated proactive engagement and played an irreplaceable role. Wang Yi summarized the three experiences and unique advantages of BRICS countries based on China's practice. Firstly, BRICS countries do not seek any selfish interests. They are always committed to giving peace a chance and seeking a way out for political solutions. They never seek to interfere in other countries' internal affairs under the guise of mediation, nor do they have any geopolitical calculations. Secondly, they uphold objectivity and fairness. They make fair judgments based on the facts of the matter and treat all parties' legitimate concerns fairly, seeking solutions that are universally accepted. They always adhere to the United Nations Charter and recognized principles of international law as guidelines, opposing any double standards or selective application. Lastly, they adhere to a comprehensive approach. There are no simple solutions to complex problems, and there is no "quick fix" for difficult issues. By focusing on the long term and going beyond crisis containment tactics, through patient diplomacy, they seek comprehensive solutions to eliminate the root causes of conflicts.
