The Baltic index is dropping, and demand for shipping is declining across the board.
The Baltic Exchange Dry Index fell on Wednesday, with all vessel segments experiencing losses. The main index dropped 12 points to 1386, monitoring the rates of Capesize, Panamax, and Supramax vessels. The Capesize index fell 17 points to 1961, with average daily income decreasing by $143 to $16,265, typically transporting 150,000 tons of goods such as iron ore and coal. BIMCO stated in their report: "We expect the supply-demand balance in the dry bulk market to deteriorate in 2025 and 2026, with changes in US trade policy leading to worsening economic prospects and increased uncertainty."
