According to a recent survey of corporate recruitment plans for 2026 compiled by the Nikkei Economic News Agency, the number of companies setting starting salaries at 300,000 yen or more for the 2025 fiscal year has reached 131, more than double the number for the 2024 fiscal year. The average starting salary has increased by 4.9% compared to 2024, reaching 2,542,280 yen, a record high. Among the reasons cited for raising starting salaries, 83.4% of companies mentioned "ensuring talent," making it the most common reason. This was followed by "responding to rising prices" and "because salary increases have already been implemented for current employees."
