According to Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean government refuted the statement made by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant on the 30th, claiming that "South Korea hopes to establish a basic framework for trade negotiations before the presidential election" and reiterated that South Korea will not rush to advance the negotiations. The report stated that Bessant said at a press conference at the White House on the 29th local time that the negotiating outline between South Korea and the US is gradually becoming clearer. In response to questions about the June 3rd presidential election in South Korea and the July elections for the Japanese House of Councillors potentially delaying the negotiation process, Bessant said, "These governments hope more to finalize the trade agreement framework before the election to demonstrate to their domestic population that they are successfully advancing negotiations with the US." Bessant added, "We find that they are actually more eager to sit at the negotiation table, settle this matter first, and then start their election campaigns." However, this statement was denied by the South Korean side. According to Yonhap News Agency on the 30th, the South Korean Ministry of Planning and Finance stated in joint explanation material on the same day, "Before the election, South Korea has never conveyed or discussed with the US the intention to finalize the trade negotiation framework and then engage in election activities." The South Korean Ministry of Planning and Finance also stated that in the future negotiation process, the South Korean government will fully consider domestic political situations and communicate with the National Assembly, and reiterated that the position of not rushing to advance the negotiations and proceeding steadily according to procedures remains unchanged.
