The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a routine press conference today. A reporter asked about the remarks made by the Democratic Progressive Party authorities, claiming that sticking to the belief of "both sides of the strait are one family" is definitely not the current situation or mainstream opinion in Taiwan. In response, Zhu Fenglian, the spokesperson of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, stated that inciting hostility and confrontation across the strait by the Democratic Progressive Party authorities will only exacerbate the instability in the Taiwan Strait. Engaging in military aggression will seriously harm the interests and well-being of Taiwan compatriots, and attempting to seek independence through military force will only bring danger to Taiwan. The mainstream public opinion in Taiwanese society is for peace, development, communication, and cooperation. No one can cut off the blood ties between compatriots on both sides of the strait, and no one can stop the progress of development by compatriots on both sides of the strait. Only by firmly following the path of peaceful development and integration of cross-strait relations can we uphold the peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and ensure the safety and well-being of Taiwan compatriots.
