On April 28th local time, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development in Eastern Africa released a report stating that the number of food insecure people in East and Central Africa has increased to 73 million in April. The report notes that this number has risen from 69.2 million in February, primarily due to the ongoing conflicts and insecurity in the region. The report analysis highlights that long-term conflicts and insecurity are the main driving factors of food insecurity, hindering humanitarian aid, disrupting supply chains, impeding local agricultural production and market access, and forcing people to flee their homes, ultimately resulting in food shortages.
