Wang Yi meets with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov

On April 28 local time, Wang Yi, member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov in Rio de Janeiro. Wang Yi stated that currently, there is intense competition between unilateral and multilateral approaches, and the struggle between hegemony and anti-hegemony is unfolding globally. The unity and cooperation of BRICS countries are showing increasingly important strategic value. As founding members of BRICS, China and Russia need to strengthen coordination and cooperation within the BRICS framework, deepen solidarity and cooperation with developing countries and emerging economies, and continuously enhance the influence and appeal of the "big BRICS". Lavrov briefed on the latest situation in the Ukraine crisis, reaffirming Russia's willingness to conduct peace talks with Ukraine without preconditions. Wang Yi elaborated on China's principle of advocating peace and promoting dialogue. The two sides engaged in strategic communication on strengthening cooperation within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the G20, and exchanged views on issues such as the Iran nuclear issue and the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.
