In a new study, a team from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark has found that by changing the diet conditions, super stem cells that are more prone to developing into other cell types can be cultivated. These stem cells are more energetic and have a stronger differentiation ability compared to regular stem cells, and can more effectively be transformed into specialized cells such as liver cells, skin cells, or nerve cells. In the potential applications of super stem cells, one particularly intriguing area is reproductive therapy, especially in vitro fertilization. The research shows that super stem cells are particularly adept at generating specific tissues that form during early embryo development, which is crucial for the success of IVF. Specifically, super stem cells are better at producing a cell lineage that will eventually develop into the yolk sac. Previous studies have shown that the formation of the yolk sac is crucial for embryo implantation and successful pregnancy in laboratory settings.
