At the third China Technology Innovation Achievements Transformation Fair opened in Hefei, Anhui on April 26, the National Key Laboratory of Low Temperature Science and Technology of the Institute of Physical and Chemical Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences debuted the mega-watt level helium refrigeration machine. This large-scale helium cryocooler is a major breakthrough in this field in China. Hu Zhongjun, a researcher at the Institute of Physical and Chemical Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, introduced that the helium compressor, helium gas bearings, and low-temperature heat exchanger used in this mega-watt level helium refrigeration machine are all domestically produced. The total length of the cooler is about 28 meters, with a diameter exceeding 4 meters. In liquefaction mode, the liquefaction rate reaches 3370 liters per hour, and the core component, the turbo expander, operates at a speed of 100,000-150,000 revolutions per minute. This equipment will be used in the national major scientific infrastructure accelerator-driven transmutation research device. Another small 500-watt helium refrigeration machine, already contracted with the Hefei Advanced Light Source, will play an important supporting role for the fourth-generation light source.
