The Chilean Finance Minister is cautiously optimistic after the trade negotiations with the United States.
Chilean Finance Minister Mario Marcel said in an interview that Chile is both hopeful and cautious after initiating trade negotiations with the United States on a solid basis. Marcel expressed his optimism but also caution after holding bilateral talks with US Deputy Treasury Secretary Michael Faulkner in Washington on Saturday, stating: "I believe there are significant points of convergence between the United States and Chile. I am optimistic about this, but also cautious." He believes that, given the depreciation of the US dollar against the Chilean peso, the potential impact of trade tensions on inflation can be ignored. His biggest concern is focused on economic growth. Marcel added: "The increased uncertainty in financial markets and the long-term impact of trade disruptions on economic activity are the two issues that concern us."
