The Workers United union representing Starbucks union representatives involved in contract negotiations voted to reject the coffee chain's latest proposal, which guaranteed at least a 2% annual pay raise. Out of the 490 baristas representing over 550 Starbucks stores in the United States that are already unionized, 81% rejected the proposal because it did not make any adjustments to economic benefits like health insurance and did not include immediate pay raises. "Starbucks' current proposal is not enough to finalize an agreement," the union stated. In a statement, Starbucks mentioned that the union submitted an incomplete single-store contract framework for their representatives to vote on, and added that the union's actions have delayed the process of reaching a mutual agreement.
