Hundreds of researchers accepted pay cuts to work at OpenAI, persuaded by the company's mission, which legally shouldn't be profit-driven. What about that mission now? It was reported that on February 10, local time, an investor consortium led by Musk proposed to acquire OpenAI for $97.4 billion. Musk's lawyer, Mark Tobirov, confirmed the news and said the acquisition offer had been submitted to the OpenAI Board of Directors. In response, Oltman stated on X platform, "No thanks, but if you are willing, we are willing to buy Twitter for $9.74 billion."
