Hong Kong may expand smoke-free areas starting next year.
The Hong Kong SAR Government Gazette today published the "Smoking Control Ordinance 2025 Bill". The Bill proposes various smoking control measures, including banning smoking in designated areas for queuing for public transport, queuing to enter cinemas, hospitals or SAR Government clinics, public playgrounds, sports venues starting from January 1st next year. The Bill states that "queuing" refers to waiting in a line of two or more people. The Bill proposes that within a 3-meter radius of the entrances and exits of childcare centers, hospitals, Department of Health clinics or health centers, and residential facilities, smoking will be prohibited.
