According to CNBC and The Wall Street Journal, Meta Platforms (META.O) has launched a new open-weight AI model, Muse Spark Open, aimed primarily at coding and AI agent tasks, but it has not opened up its most powerful model. Meta's Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang said that Muse Spark Open is not the strongest model the company has developed or released. Muse Wonder, which Meta launched earlier this week, remains closed-source. Meta also acknowledged that Chinese open-weight models still outperform Muse Spark Open on software development and some other tasks. Meanwhile, Meta has partnered with Apple (AAPL.O) to support developers in running Muse Spark Open locally on multiple high-end Mac computers. Apple has updated its MLX software toolkit to support running the model on Mac devices.
