U.S. mortgage rates rise to 7.5%, home purchase activity falls for sixth straight week.

According to data released by the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) on Wednesday, for the week ending October 9, the contract rate on 30-year fixed-rate mortgages rose by 1 basis point to 7.50%, still the highest level since November 2023. Since the end of June, the rate has risen by nearly 1 percentage point.
