Swiss Re issues a warning about the risk of heatwaves.

Swiss Re Chief Executive Officer Christian Mumenthaler stated in an interview with the Swiss newspaper Sonntagszeitung: "The risks of heatwaves and their associated mortality have been underestimated." He added, "We need to raise awareness of the dangers that arise from this." Mumenthaler made these remarks after Swiss Re announced a 9% increase in its net profit for the first half of 2026, noting that it is still too early to assert how excess mortality rates will impact the financial data of the Zurich-based company.
