Recently, the claim that "keeping the air conditioner on 24 hours a day is actually more energy-efficient" has sparked heated discussions online. Some netizens posted videos stating that after conducting an experiment, keeping the air conditioner on for 24 hours a day resulted in a monthly electricity bill of 118 yuan; turning it on late and off early led to a bill of 198 yuan; and frequently turning it on and off resulted in a bill of 490 yuan. Is this really the case? Journalists from the power department learned that if one is going out briefly, the air conditioner can be left on at a higher temperature of 1 to 2, which is more energy-efficient than frequently turning it on and off. However, if one is leaving home for a long time, such as the whole workday, it is more cost-effective to turn it back on upon returning home.
