Report: Samsung plans to outsource Google 2nm TPU backend design.
Due to the surge in orders for wafer foundry services and internal engineering manpower constraints, Samsung Electronics is considering outsourcing the backend design business of Google's 2-nanometer Tensor processor to external partner factories. Multiple industry insiders revealed that Samsung recently contacted its design solution partners to inquire about their willingness to take on the backend design business for Google's 10th generation TPU. This TPU, codenamed "Icefish," will be produced using Samsung's 2-nanometer process. Previously, Samsung had independently completed the backend design of Tesla's 2-nanometer autonomous driving chip. However, industry insiders indicate that with the recent surge in orders for Samsung's 2-nanometer process, there is a shortage of engineering and research manpower.
