As the pilot group filed a complaint, Lebanon initiated a safety audit of Middle East Airlines.
The letter obtained by the media shows that, as pilot groups expressed concerns - crew members were asked to fly near strike zones and were punished for reporting security incidents - the Lebanese aviation regulator has initiated a safety audit of Middle East Airlines. This audit will put the national carrier, based in Beirut, under the spotlight. Despite many foreign airlines avoiding much of the Middle East airspace due to missile and drone risks since the outbreak of the US-Israeli war against Iran in February, MEA has continued to operate, ensuring the country's connectivity during periods of conflict and economic collapse. MEA owns about 20 aircraft and operates routes covering the Middle East, Europe, and West Africa. The airline is highly praised domestically for continuing to fly during regional conflicts. As Israel intensifies its airstrikes on Lebanon during the escalating conflict with the Iran-backed Hezbollah this year, concerns in the aviation industry are growing.
