International Energy Agency: Renewable energy and nuclear power will provide half of the world's electricity by 2030.
The report released by the International Energy Agency on the 6th predicts that from now until 2030, the global annual electricity demand growth rate will exceed 3.5%. By 2030, the combined share of renewable energy and nuclear power in the global electricity mix will rise to 50%. The annual report "Electricity 2026" on global electricity systems and markets says that from now until 2030, electricity demand growth is expected to be at least 2.5 times that of overall energy demand growth, driven by factors such as increasing industrial electricity use, continued popularity of electric vehicles, increased use of air conditioning, and increased electricity use in data centers and artificial intelligence. Emerging and developing economies remain the main engines of electricity demand growth, and after 15 years of stagnation, electricity consumption in advanced economies is also on the rise. The report states that global renewable energy generation is currently surpassing coal-fired generation, driven by record deployments of solar power facilities, with the latest data showing that they are nearly equal in 2025. Nuclear power generation is also setting new records. It is expected that by 2030, renewable energy and nuclear power will together provide 50% of global electricity, surpassing the current 42%.
