According to the website of the Ethiopian newspaper "Addis Standard" on the 29th, Ethiopian Airlines suspended flights to the Tigray region in the north of the country that day. The report said that airport staff in the capital of Tigray, Mekelle, had been informed to take the day off on the 29th. However, the report did not mention the reason for the suspension of flights. As of now, Ethiopian Airlines has not issued a statement on the matter. Since November 2020, armed clashes have been ongoing between the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) and the Ethiopian government forces, lasting for two years. In November 2022, both parties signed a peace agreement in the South African administrative capital of Pretoria. During the Tigray conflict, Ethiopian Airlines had previously suspended flights to the Tigray region, only resuming them after the peace agreement was signed.
