The French authorities have received a second report of infant death, as the crisis of contaminated infant formula widens, involving Nestl, Danone, and Lactalis Group. The French Ministry of Health said in a statement on Thursday night that both infants had consumed the recalled formula. Health Minister Stphanie Rist told French BFM TV on Friday that it has not been determined yet whether there is a causal relationship between the deaths and the products in question. The Bordeaux Prosecutor's Office stated that one of the infants had consumed the recalled Nestl Guigoz formula in early January. Test results showed that this formula did not contain the wax-like spore-forming bacteria related to the recall. However, authorities are still waiting for the test results for the toxins from the spore-forming bacteria as well as the autopsy results.
