Member of the UK Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) committee, Miles, believes that the view that OBR succumbed to government pressure is incorrect. The statement by Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, that public finances are in a "exceptionally difficult situation" is not contradictory to the final assessment by OBR and the two judgements are highly consistent.
