Aluminum prices may rise again as the EU plans to restrict exports of scrap aluminum, potentially tightening global supply.
According to the Wisdom Financial APP, EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic stated on Tuesday that the European Commission plans to restrict the export of EU's scrap aluminum to prevent this metal from flowing out of the EU in large quantities and causing a shortage of the necessary raw materials for its related industries to achieve decarbonization. According to the industry organization European Aluminium, the EU's export of aluminum scrap reached a record high of 12.6 million tons in 2024, an increase of about 50% from five years ago, with the majority being shipped to Asia.
