The data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on March 4th shows that in 2023, the lithium-ion battery ("lithium battery") industry in China continued to grow. According to the calculation of enterprise information and industry associations based on the industry norms of lithium battery, the total output of lithium battery in the country exceeded 940GWh, a year-on-year increase of 25%, and the total output value of the industry exceeded 1.4 trillion yuan. In the battery segment, the production of consumer, power, and energy storage lithium batteries from January to December was 80GWh, 675GWh, and 185GWh respectively, with the installed capacity of lithium batteries (including new energy vehicles and new energy storage) exceeding 435GWh. Export trade continued to grow, with the total lithium battery exports in the country reaching 457.4 billion yuan from January to December, a year-on-year increase of over 33%. In the first-tier material segment, the production of positive electrode materials, negative electrode materials, separators, and electrolytes from January to December reached 2.3 million tons, 1.65 million tons, 15 billion square meters, and 1 million tons respectively, all with an increase of over 15%. In the second-tier material segment, the production of lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide from January to December were approximately 463,000 tons and 285,000 tons respectively, with the average price of battery-grade lithium carbonate and battery-grade lithium hydroxide (micro-powder grade) being 258,000 yuan/ton and 273,000 yuan/ton respectively. The prices of lithium battery industry products showed a significant decrease throughout the year, with the prices of battery cores and battery-grade lithium salts from January to December falling by over 50% and 70% respectively.
