The Hong Kong Hotel Association has stated that during the eight-day Lunar New Year holiday period, the overall performance of Hong Kong hotels was impressive, with performance levels returning to those of 2019. The overall average hotel room occupancy rate was 93.4%, a slight decrease of 0.4 percentage points compared to the same period in 2019; the average room rate was HK$1715, an increase of 6% compared to 2019. The Chairman of the association, Michael Wan, hopes that the Hong Kong government will enhance the integration of local projects with local cultural characteristics and promote vibrant "Day and Night Spectacular" activities to attract international and mainland Chinese tourists.
Michael Wan mentioned that Hong Kong currently offers over 90,000 hotel rooms, and with new hotels in the pipeline, the industry is prepared to welcome more individual tourists from overseas and the mainland. He believes that the Hong Kong SAR government will make efforts to enhance reception capacity arrangements, including airline carrying capacity and labor input, to support the recovery of the tourism industry.
The Hong Kong Hotel Association expects airline carrying capacity to return to pre-pandemic levels by the end of this year.
