HKICPA: Welcomes the HKSAR Government's Launch of the Patent Valuation Pilot Support Scheme, Which Helps Consolidate Hong Kong's Position as a Regional Intellectual Property Trading Centre
The Institute believes that this scheme will help unlock intellectual property financing channels and consolidate Hong Kong's position as a regional intellectual property trading centre.
The Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) welcomes the HKSAR Government's Intellectual Property Department's announcement of the launch of the "Patent Valuation Pilot Support Scheme." The Institute has long been an active advocate and promoter of the professional development of business valuation, regarding it as a key component of Hong Kong's development as a professional services hub. The Institute believes that this scheme will help open up financing channels for intellectual property and consolidate Hong Kong's position as a regional intellectual property trading centre.
The two-year pilot scheme aims to assist eligible local SMEs in valuing their patents and other intellectual property assets, thereby supporting enterprises in obtaining credit financing through access to objective valuation data. By facilitating enterprises' use of their intellectual property assets as financing tools, the scheme unlocks innovative commercial value and drives the development of Hong Kong's innovation and technology ecosystem.
Loretta Lo, President of the HKICPA, said that intellectual property plays an increasingly important role in driving innovation and economic growth, and that professional and credible valuation is a critical cornerstone for the commercialisation and capitalisation of intellectual property. The Institute has been promoting and enhancing the professional development of business valuation. The pilot scheme will help Hong Kong build a more favourable environment for intellectual property valuation and financing, enabling innovative enterprises to more effectively utilise their intangible assets. At the same time, the Institute will continue to lead the profession in "pricing" and "adding value" to enterprises' intangible assets with high-quality valuation services, fully supporting Hong Kong's development of new quality productive forces and its innovation and technology ecosystem.
