Lumentum (LITE.US) saw a significant increase in its stock price after earnings, and Wall Street analysts suggest "continue standing in the light."
Wall Street analysts remain optimistic about Lumentum.
Optical communication giant Lumentum (LITE.US) saw its stock price surge by 14% on Wednesday after the company announced better-than-expected results and guidance for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2026, receiving widespread positive feedback from analysts.
Morgan Stanley raised Lumentum's target price from $900 to $1,000 while maintaining a hold rating.
The analyst team led by Marshall at Meta stated that Lumentums performance in the fourth quarter was largely in line with expectations, with gross margins reaching the upper end of investor forecasts. As product pricing and portfolio optimization improve, along with a gradual ramp-up in new business, the outlook remains positive.
Marshall noted that Lumentum's next key catalyst lies in the formalization of contracts and a clearer outlook for the scale and profitability of near-packaging optics (NPO) business. Management indicated that related formal announcements may take several quarters, which is why the market reaction post-earnings release was relatively subdued.
Marshall's team added, In the short term, we are cautiously optimistic as there is limited downside, especially in light of potential new regulations from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). However, clear catalysts for the stock price may not materialize until this fall or around next years OFC (Optical Fiber Communications) conference, when the situation regarding new NPO orders will be clearer.
Needham maintained a buy rating on Lumentum with a target price of $1,040.
Analyst Ryan Koontzs team remarked, Lumentum achieved strong performance in the fourth quarter, with revenue and earnings per share exceeding market consensus estimates by 2% and $0.26, respectively, while the guidance for the next quarter also surpassed expectations by 8% and $0.51, reflecting a continued shift in AI capital expenditures towards the optical communication sector.
Koontz stated, We expect Lumentum to continue to dominate the high-performance optical devices essential for AI infrastructure as it expands into the multi-billion dollar optical circuit switching (OCS) and co-packaged/near-packaged optical (CPO/NPO) laser markets. We have significantly raised our earnings expectations for fiscal year 2027 and provided our first estimate of around $35 earnings per share for fiscal year 2028. Lumentum has remained our top pick for 19 consecutive months.
The earnings report showed that Lumentums revenue for the fourth quarter increased by 109.3% year-over-year to $1.006 billion, exceeding the average analyst expectation of $990 million. The adjusted net profit was $326 million, up 415% year-over-year; the adjusted earnings per share were $3.23, better than the average analyst expectation of $2.97; the adjusted gross margin was 50.4%, an increase of 1260 basis points year-over-year, outperforming the average analyst expectation of 48.8%; and the adjusted operating margin was 36.6%, up 2160 basis points year-over-year.
With the explosive demand for high-speed optical interconnects driven by AI clusters, Lumentum has become one of the key beneficiaries of this wave of AI hardware. The company's stock price has risen by 153% this year.
According to Tipranks, overall, Wall Street analysts remain optimistic about Lumentum, with a consensus rating of strong buy and an average target price of $1,099.38, which is 18% higher than the most recent closing price.
