The amount of new mortgage loans approved in June increased by 25.8% compared to May, reaching HKD 50.6 billion.
On July 31, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced the results of the residential mortgage statistics survey for June 2026. The number of newly applied loans in June increased by 12.5% compared to May, reaching 12,117 cases. The amount of new mortgage loans granted in June increased by 25.8% compared to May, totaling HKD 50.6 billion. Among these, loans granted for first-hand market transactions rose by 32.3% to HKD 15.5 billion; loans for second-hand market transactions increased by 21.6% to HKD 28.9 billion. As for loans related to refinancing transactions, they increased by 30.6% to HKD 6.2 billion. The amount of new mortgage loans utilized in June increased by 17.6% compared to May, reaching HKD 27.7 billion. The proportion of newly approved mortgage loans priced using Hong Kong Interbank Offered Rate (HIBOR) decreased from 73.8% in May to 70% in June. The proportion of newly approved mortgage loans priced at the best lending rate rose from 1.2% in May to 1.3% in June. The total outstanding amount of mortgage loans increased by 0.4% in June, reaching HKD 1,955 billion. The mortgage delinquency ratio stands at 0.11%, remaining at a low level, with the restructured loan ratio maintained at close to 0%.
