On July 31, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced that as of June 30, 2026, the total assets of the Exchange Fund amounted to HKD 4,463.6 billion, an increase of HKD 72.9 billion compared to the end of May 2026. Among these, HKD assets rose by HKD 84.7 billion, while foreign currency assets decreased by HKD 11.8 billion. The increase in HKD assets was mainly due to the rise in the month-end balance of Exchange Fund bills and bonds that were subscribed but not yet settled. However, the increase was partially offset by the revaluation of Hong Kong stocks at market price. The decrease in foreign currency assets was primarily due to the withdrawal of fiscal reserves deposits, although this reduction was partially offset by an increase in outstanding repurchase agreements and interest income from investments. The currency issuance bureau's accounts showed that the monetary base at the end of June 2026 was HKD 2,075 billion, an increase of HKD 2.8 billion compared to the end of May 2026, representing a growth rate of 0.1%. The growth in the monetary base was mainly due to the amortization of discounts of issued Exchange Fund bills and bonds, as well as an increase in the market value of outstanding Exchange Fund bills and bonds. The total amount of supporting assets at the end of June 2026 rose by HKD 6.8 billion to HKD 2,320.6 billion, an increase of 0.3%. The increase in supporting assets was mainly due to interest income from investments; however, this increase was partially offset by the revaluation of investments at market price. The supporting ratio rose from 111.66% at the end of May 2026 to 111.84% at the end of June 2026.
