Ministry of Commerce: Chinese measures only target medical devices imported from the European Union, and production of products by European-funded enterprises in China is not affected.
The measures taken by China only target medical device products imported from the European Union, and products produced by European-funded enterprises in China are not affected.
On July 6th, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce answered questions from reporters regarding the measures taken on imported medical devices from the EU in government procurement activities. The European Commission introduced measures on June 20, 2025, restricting Chinese companies and products from participating in their public procurement of medical devices, continuously setting barriers for Chinese companies in the field of public procurement. China has expressed willingness through bilateral dialogues to resolve differences with the EU through dialogue, negotiation, and bilateral government procurement arrangements. Regrettably, despite China's goodwill and sincerity, the EU has persisted in taking restrictive measures, constructing new protectionist barriers. Therefore, China had to take equivalent restrictive measures. The relevant measures are to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies and maintain a fair competitive environment. These measures only apply to imported medical devices from the EU, and EU companies operating in China are not affected.
