Acting Chief Executive of Hong Kong, John Lee, in his opening remarks to the media before attending the executive meeting this morning (February 11), stated that during the Mainland Chinese Spring Festival golden period, the number of inbound travelers reached 1.4 million, similar to the same period last year. Hotel occupancy rates generally reached 90%, and major tourist attractions were bustling with visitors. As for Mainland Chinese inbound tour groups, during the entire Spring Festival golden period, there were over 200 tour groups entering Hong Kong, with a new record set on the third day of the Lunar New Year, with over 440 Mainland tour groups visiting Hong Kong. Overall, the market was bustling during the Lunar New Year period, with a noticeable increase in foot traffic. The catering industry expressed satisfaction with overall business, stating that it was better than last year. According to John Lee, the tourism industry in Hong Kong is showing promising overall performance as we enter 2025. The number of visitors to Hong Kong in January was approximately 4.74 million, with around 3.73 million Mainland Chinese visitors, representing a year-on-year increase of 24% and 25% respectively, setting new records for the highest number of visitors to Hong Kong and Mainland Chinese inbound visitors in a single month since the pandemic. In addition to the encouraging visitor numbers, according to a survey conducted by the Tourism Board in 2024, on a scale of 10, overnight visitors' satisfaction with visiting Hong Kong was 8.8, with the intention to visit Hong Kong again and recommend Hong Kong being as high as 94%, all three indicators exceeding the levels of 2023, proving that Hong Kong is very attractive to visitors. Furthermore, John Lee mentioned that the largest sports infrastructure project in Hong Kong, the Kai Tak Sports Park, will officially open on March 1. Since mid-June last year, he has been actively coordinating with various relevant policy bureaus and departments in leading the inter-departmental working group for the completion and opening preparation of the Kai Tak Sports Park. They have conducted over 15 different scale and nature of tests and drills at the three venues of Kai Tak Sports Park, including two drills with around 63,000 and 50,000 participants respectively, with satisfactory results. There will be several more tests and drills to come, including one with 63,000 participants. He is confident that the park is ready and can officially open on March 1.
