After two of the latest models of drones crashed in the rain, Amazon has temporarily suspended drone delivery services.
According to reports, Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN.US) has suspended its drone delivery service after two of the latest models of drones crashed in the rain. The company has announced that it will immediately halt drone delivery services in Arizona and Texas in the United States, and is expected to address the drone crash incidents through software upgrades.
The incident occurred in December last year. Reports suggest that Amazon.com, Inc. attributed the drone crash to a software issue caused by light rain encountered during the drone flight. The crashed drone, an MK30 drone, had received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and was being used for delivery services in College Station, Texas, and Tolleson, Arizona.
Amazon.com, Inc. spokesperson Sam Stephenson stated in a statement that drone delivery services will resume once the software upgrade is completed and approved by the FAA. Additionally, Sam Stephenson stated that the incident in December was not the main reason for suspending the drone delivery service. He added that Amazon.com, Inc. had been safely continuing deliveries and complying with federal regulations before deciding to halt the service.
