The Hong Kong Tourism Board announced today that the preliminary number of visitors to Hong Kong in 2024 is expected to reach close to 45 million, an increase of 31% compared to the previous year. In December of last year, there were 4.26 million visitors to Hong Kong, an 8% increase compared to the same period the year before. The Hong Kong Tourism Board described the Southeast Asian market as strong, with a 50% year-on-year increase in long-haul market visitors. Mainland China continued to be the largest visitor market last year, with a total of 34 million visitors, a 27% increase compared to the previous year, accounting for approximately 75% of the total number of visitors to Hong Kong for the year. The Hong Kong Tourism Board indicated that last year, half of the total visitors to Hong Kong were overnight visitors, staying an average of 3.2 nights. According to a survey of visitors to Hong Kong rated on a scale of 10, overnight visitors had a satisfaction rating of 8.8, with intentions to revisit and recommend Hong Kong both at 94%, all higher than the previous year. In addition, with the continuous increase in air capacity, the number of non-mainland visitors exceeded one million for two consecutive months in November and December of 2024.
