On September 29, the new construction of the Shanghai-Hangzhou high-speed railway preliminary project started. The new Shanghai-Hangzhou high-speed railway will connect the under-construction Shanghai East Station with the already opened Hangzhou West Station. The preliminary construction project includes the expansion and renovation of the Four-Tuan Station in Shanghai and the construction of the new Jiatong Special Bridge in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province. The expansion and renovation of the Four-Tuan Station will add a high-speed train arrival and departure yard; the new Jiatong Special Bridge is approximately 12 kilometers long, spanning across the Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway, multiple highways, and waterways, making it a key project along the entire line. The new Shanghai-Hangzhou high-speed railway is an important part of China's "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed railway network coastal corridor, connecting the Shanghai high-speed railway hub in the east with the Hangzhou high-speed railway hub in the west, with a crucial regional road network position. Once completed, it will create another high-speed railway link between Shanghai and Hangzhou, along with the existing Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway, further enhancing the level of high-speed rail connectivity in the Yangtze River Delta region, greatly facilitating travel for people along the route. It is of great importance for the role of regional core cities in radiation and driving force, accelerating the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta.
