The decision of the Standing Committee of the Guangzhou Municipal People's Congress on Strengthening the Prevention and Control of Vector-borne Diseases has been passed at the 41st meeting of the 16th Standing Committee of the Guangzhou Municipal People's Congress and will be implemented from September 26. The decision specifies that the prevention and control of vector-borne diseases will adhere to the principles of government leadership, inter-departmental cooperation, public participation, and scientific management, taking comprehensive measures with environmental management as the main focus and drug control as a supplement. Vector-borne organisms refer to beings that can transmit pathogens from humans or other animals to humans, such as rats, mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches, and fleas. According to the decision, the town people's government and sub-district offices should fully leverage the role of the public health committee as a unified command and coordination platform, responsible for the specific implementation of vector-borne disease prevention and control in their respective areas, including organizing vector-borne disease prevention and control actions, conducting environmental sanitation clean-ups, vector-borne organism extermination, and breeding ground clearance activities at least once a month, and increasing the frequency according to local vector-borne organism peak activity patterns.
