Turkish Airlines agrees to purchase 225 Boeing aircraft but needs to negotiate on the engines.
Turkish Airlines announced on Friday that it will order 75 Boeing B787 aircraft, and has completed negotiations to purchase 150 Boeing 737-8/10MAX aircraft, but still needs to negotiate with engine manufacturer CFM International. Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday. Trump stated that he believes Turkey will agree to his request to stop buying Russian oil, and that he may lift U.S. sanctions on Ankara so that Turkey can purchase American F-35 jet fighters. Turkish Airlines said in a statement to the Istanbul Stock Exchange that it has decided to purchase 75 B787-9 and B787-10 models from Boeing, including 50 firm orders and 25 optional orders. The airline stated that the delivery of these aircraft will be between 2029 and 2034. Negotiations are also ongoing with Rolls-Royce and GE Aviation for the engines, spare engines, and engine maintenance services for these aircraft. Turkish Airlines also mentioned that it has completed negotiations with Boeing to purchase an additional 150 aircraft, including 100 firm orders of 737-8/10MAX models and 50 optional orders. The company stated that orders for the 737-8/10MAX aircraft will be placed after discussions with engine manufacturer CFM International are successfully concluded.
