On September 25th, local time, Iraqi Prime Minister Sadeq announced on his social media account that a "historic agreement" had been reached. The Baghdad central government's oil department will receive crude oil produced by the oil fields in the Kurdistan Autonomous Region, and export it through oil pipelines between Iraq and Turkey. Previously, the Iraqi central government had demanded compensation from the Turkish government for importing oil from the Kurdish regional government without authorization from the Iraqi government between 2014 and 2018. In March 2023, oil transportation between Turkey and the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government was suspended. Iraqi government officials have repeatedly revealed to the public between 2024 and 2025 that they will resume oil exports from the Kurdish region, but due to various factors such as frequent drone attacks on oil fields in the region, the export plan has been forced to be delayed.
