Mining stocks rose before the trading session, influenced by supply disruptions and rising metal prices.
In pre-market trading on Thursday, mining and mining concession stocks rose as spot metal prices rose and some supplies faced interruptions. Copper mining stocks rose, with Freeport-McMoRan Inc. saying that its Indonesian Grasberg mine will see a decrease in copper production following a fatal mudslide accident. Pre-market gainers include: Freeport up 0.50%, Teck Resources up 2.37%, Southern Copper up 0.42%, ERO Copper up 2.08%. Silver stocks rose as spot silver prices rose by the highest 2.7% to $45.08 on Thursday, the highest since May 2011. Gold stocks also rose, with gold prices staying near historical highs, reaching a high of 0.7% to $3761.60 on Thursday.
