According to South Korea's "Chosun Ilbo" report, a consulting unit including the government and labor is discussing the implementation of a 4.5-day work week. The Ministry of Employment and Labor has set up a special team to study the reduction of working hours; the team is composed of the government, labor unions, the Korea Federation of Employers, and the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Businesses, and will announce a roadmap after three months of discussion. The government plans to establish laws to provide financial support for companies adopting shorter work weeks. The government estimates that if the momentum of a 4.5-day work week is promoted according to the plan, it may consider reducing statutory working hours through legislation around 2028.
