Intense armed clashes occurred in western Libya.
According to Libyan media reports on the 24th, a fierce conflict erupted between a security department affiliated with the Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Unity and a local armed organization in the Zawiya region, about 60 kilometers west of the capital, Tripoli. According to the Libyan News Agency, the conflict started when the security department arrested several members of the local armed organization, Kabtatt. Local sources said that the conflict quickly spread to residential areas and around the oil refinery in the city. Videos circulating on social media showed the use of medium and heavy weapons in the conflict. Local media reported that a security guard at an oil facility was killed by a mortar shell. Heavy military reinforcements have been deployed on the main roads in the conflict area.
