The talks were originally expected to avoid a government shutdown before the deadline on September 30th. Deutsche Bank analyst Jim Reid pointed out in a report to clients on Wednesday morning: "The cancellation of the talks has raised concerns that funds may run out before the deadline next week, and we may see the first government shutdown since the winter of 2018-19."
